Hi, my name is Nicolai. I am the founder and owner of Groundhopping Tours. For more than 20 years I have been addicted to traveling and watching football. It has taken me to over 400 different stadiums in more than 60 different countries around the world. I love the culture called groundhopping, which involves visiting as many different stadiums as possible, because I like to visit places that can give me new, exciting and different experiences.
For me, football has always been about much more than just the 90 minutes on the pitch. Because it is not just the players who create the club, the culture or the experience – it is also everything around; the history, the fans, the stands – even the flood lights are part of the club.
Living the groundhopping lifestyle sparked the dream of starting my own football travel company. A travel company where I could share my knowledge and experiences about which stadiums you can have the biggest and most spectacular, historical and authentic football experiences at, but where you can also share the passion for football, culture and travel experiences in a larger community.
The dream came true in 2018, and since then we have taken thousands of football fans to great football experiences all over the world – including Rome.

🇮🇹 Tonight at 20.45 Lazio vs Verona at Stadio Olimpico. Here we explain the reasons behind the good relations between the two sets of supporters.
In the next couple of weeks we will go into the relationships between Italians fans from different clubs. We will be focusing on the relationships that fans of Lazio and Roma have got with other clubs. It is important to know that there are different stages of good relations between fans. In Italy the “gemellaggio” (twinning) is the strongest level. Secondly you have a level friendship or simply good relations and respect.
The level between Lazio and Verona fans is a form of good relations and respect, and not a real “gemellaggio”. Both set of fans have demonstrated this on several occasions with banners and greetings. Also meaning that this fixture is low risk from a police perspective.
The good relations between Lazio and Verona is partly founded in the shared political views. Both sets of ultras are traditionally know to have right-wing political views. Another thing that helped the good relations was in 2012 when former Lazio player Paolo Di Canio, in a video he said a lot of positive things about the Verona fans and that he had a lot of respect for the Curva Sud Verona. Last but not least both have an enemy in common, which is Napoli.

November 12th 2023: For this Rome Derby the Curva Sud displays a large banner with Mars (the Roman god of war). Below another banner saying “Discendenti di Marte, padroni della storia” (Descendants of Mars, masters of history).
When the Roma fans did the choreography, they had some troubles unfolding the big banner, and Lazio fans didn’t miss the opportunity to point this out to the Curva Sud.
January 10th 2024: The following Rome Derby in Coppa Italia. The Curva Nord displayed a big banner with Mars (similar to the Roma version) and in front of the stand a banner with the same text as the Curva Sud used a few months earlier. The story is that Lazio fans made their banner look an unfold poorly, to make fun of the Curva Sud choreography and displayed a banner saying: “This is what you force us to watch at every derby”. In the end a banner saying “Figli unici di Roma” (Only children of Rome).
The legend says that the city of Rome was founded by the two twins Romulus and Remus (used in the AS Roma logo). They were raised by the shewolf (also used as a symbol of Rome). According to Roman mythology the father of the two twins is Mars. Therefore Romans consider themselves as descendants of Mars.
History plays a very big part of the life in Rome, and therefore the Romans also bring this into the stadium. In this case it was also a battle of who would be the true descendants of Mars and therefore the true Romans.

This is the story about why the name of Antonio De Falchi, is always associated with the Roma-Milan matches.
On Sunday the 4th of June 1989 Roma fan Antonio De Falchi arrived along with friends at San Siro in Milan. It was hours before the Milan-Roma match. Upon arrival outside the stadium they were attacked by a group of Milan fans and Antonio got heavily beaten. He didn’t make it. He was beaten into a coma and died in Milan. He was 18 years old and died because he was a Roma fan on the wrong place in Milan that day.
Almost 35 years has passed, but Roma fans have never forgotten it.
In the Curva Sud you will still today see flags and banners with his name and face. And around Rome you can find his name and picture on the walls of the eternal city.
For the first leg one week ago in Milan, Roma fans displayed a banner to honour De Falchi and it is predicted that the Curva Sud also for tonights match will make is name heard.
Reports between Roma and Milan fans are still not good.

Daniele De Rossi played 18 seasons for AS Roma and was born in the Rome seaside neighbourhood of Ostia, which makes him a true Roman. His last season for his beloved AS Roma as a player was in 2019.
In January 2024 he came back to as coach for the giallorossi. So far with great success.

A very good experience
A very good experience with Groundhopping Tours, from pre-booking inquiry over booking and info before departure to arrival at the hotel and the entire setup in Dortmund (where we saw Dortmund vs Gladbach) with stadium tour on Friday, match on Saturday and generally just good recommendations for the trip.
Groundhopping Tours gets my absolute warmest recommendation.

Good experience for Boca Juniors match
We were in Buenos Aires on holiday and bought tickets through Groundhopping Tours for Boca Juniors' home game.
Everything about the match worked perfectly with the local guide, so there was no reason for insecurity or confusion about the slightly complicated access procedure.
Things are under control when you buy tickets here - even if it's on the other side of the globe.
