What to experience on your football trip to AS Roma

Take in the atmosphere from the Curva Sud

Match on Stadio Olimpico is of course the main event of your football trip to Rome. The stadium holds 70.000 fans and the AS Roma fans are know for being very passionate about their team.

No fans are more passionate than the fans in the Curva Sud (the south stand) which holds 19.000 fans. Here you find the different groups of organized ultras. The Curva Sud is full of flags, banners, fireworks and often big choreographies are displayed when the teams enters the pitch.

For any AS Roma match you will find yourself with one eye on the match and one eye on the Curva Sud.

Do the Stadio Olimpico Tour

No football trip to Rome is complete without doing the tour of Stadio Olimpico. The tour takes you to the museum of Stadio Olimpico, into the locker room of AS Roma and finally you enter the sideline of the pitch and the VIP area of the Monte Mario stand.

During week days tours starts ever hour and every half hour on weekends. Note that on match days the tour is closed. Book ticket for the tour at stadioolimpicotour.vivaticket.it.

Go here: Viale dei Gladiatori 2

Go for dinner at Core de Roma

Arriving in Rome of course you will need to try some of the local roman dices and specialities. You haven’t been to Rome if you haven’t had a roman Carbonara or Amatriciana.

What better place to go than the restaurant Core de Roma (name in roman dialect, translate to “Heart of Rome”) close to the neighbourhood Porta Metronia (where Totti is from). The owner is very passionate AS Roma fans and the place is decorated with Roma shirts, flags and pictures.

Go here: Via Vetulonia 27

Do pre-match with AS Roma fans

Before the match you should pass by the area in front of the entrance to Curva Sud, which is the home stand of the most passionate AS Roma fans.

Here you find the whole street full of Roma fans and a lot of bars and small restaurants. Get a beer and a pizza slice with the Roma fans before the match here.

Go here: Corner of Ponte Duca d’Aosta and Lungotevere Maresciallo Diaz.

See the Totti street art

Roman born Francesco Totti played 19 seasons for AS Roma, with a total of 786 matches and 307 goals scored. He never changed team and only played for the club of his heart AS Roma. In Rome Totti will always be an eternal hero.

Around Rome you will see a lot of street art dedicated to Francesco Totti. One of the most famous wall paintings you will find in the central neighbourhood of Monti (close to the Colosseum) with Totti pointing to the sky. More recent ones you find in the neighbourhood Porta Metronia and close to Piazza Navona.

Go here: Via del Pozzuolo 11 (Monti), Via Apulia/Via Farsalo (Porta Metronia) and Vicolo Savelli (close to Piazza Navona)

Shop in one of the AS Roma stores

If you want to go to the match wearing and official AS Roma shirt you should pass by one of the many AS Roma stores in Romes city center. Right in the center you find two on Via del Corso and in Piazza Colonna.

Note that in Rome a lot of shops are selling AS Roma merchandise and in front of the stadium on match days you will have unlimited possibilities to buy a scarf, s cap or a shirt, a lot of the stuff sold outside the official stores and not original merchandise.

Go here: Via del Corso 26-27 or Piazza Colonna 360.

Go to the Testaccio neighbourhood

Just south of the city center you will find the old roman neighbourhood call Testaccio. Here most are AS Roma fans and you will find the area decorated in the colors of AS Roma. In Testaccio you find a fanclub of AS Roma in Via Giovanni Branca and street art of former AS Roma manager José Mourinho in Via Pietro Querini.

The birth of AS Roma is discussed a lot, officially the clubs stat it to be on the 7th of June 1927, but most fans believe it to be on the 22nd of July 1927. Every year on the 22nd of July the whole neighbourhood of Testaccio goes into party mode and fans from the whole city meet up to celebrate the birth of their club.

Go here: Piramide (Metro station)

The next football trip will also be with Groundhopping Tours

The Netherlands, Scotland and Germany are so far the countries I have visited with Groundhopping Tours.

All trips have been absolutely fantastic, and there have been both top matches on the program and matches right down in the lower ranks.

I can only recommend Groundhopping Tours - so they will also plan my next football trip.

A very good experience

A very good experience with Groundhopping Tours, from pre-booking inquiry over booking and info before departure to arrival at the hotel and the entire setup in Dortmund (where we saw Dortmund vs Gladbach) with stadium tour on Friday, match on Saturday and generally just good recommendations for the trip.

Groundhopping Tours gets my absolute warmest recommendation.

Good experience for Boca Juniors match

We were in Buenos Aires on holiday and bought tickets through Groundhopping Tours for Boca Juniors' home game.

Everything about the match worked perfectly with the local guide, so there was no reason for insecurity or confusion about the slightly complicated access procedure.

Things are under control when you buy tickets here - even if it's on the other side of the globe.
